COURSE OVERVIEW
This practical Basic Life Support and Safe Use of an AED course is designed to provide learners with the knowledge and skills needed to respond to a cardiac arrest emergency.
The course is particularly suitable for healthcare professionals and those undertaking continuing professional development (CPD), including dental practitioners, nurses and other healthcare professionals. It is also appropriate for individuals who have a responsibility at work or within voluntary and community settings where an AED is available.
Training is delivered on-site across Edinburgh, The Lothians and Fife.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
During the Basic Life Support & Safe Use of an AED course, learners will cover:
Responsibilities and reporting
Assessment of the situation
Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
Infection control
Resuscitation
AED functions
Defibrillation procedures
Safety measures
Training combines practical and theoretical activities to support confident, safe decision-making in an emergency.

(Learners cannot assume responsibility as a workplace first aider until age 16)

This regulated qualification is awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA) and is recognised by Ofqual and SQA. The course provides learners with the practical competence required to recognise cardiac arrest and respond quickly, calmly and safely using an AED.
Training is delivered by a qualified nurse and experienced first aid trainer, ensuring instruction is accurate, practical and up to date.
