COURSE OVERVIEW

The Emergency Paediatric First Aid course is designed for learners who have a responsibility for the care of babies and young children. It provides the knowledge and practical skills required to deal with a range of emergency paediatric first aid situations safely and effectively.


This 6-hour qualification is ideal for those working with children in childcare and early years settings. The course can be delivered at a location of your choice, allowing entire teams to train together. Training is delivered on-site across Edinburgh, The Lothians and Fife.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

During the Emergency Paediatric First Aid course, learners will cover:

  • The role of the Paediatric First Aider

  • Primary survey

  • Resuscitation (CPR, including the safe use of an AED)

  • Choking

  • Seizures

  • Minor injuries

  • Wounds, bleeding and shock

  • Recovery position

Training focuses on clear decision-making and confident, calm responses in emergency situations involving babies and children.

This regulated qualification is awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA) and is recognised by Ofqual and SQA. The course meets the requirements set out in the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for emergency paediatric first aid training.


It is the responsibility of the employer to ensure there are adequate numbers of appropriately trained personnel. Annual refresher training is strongly recommended to help maintain skills and confidence.


Training is delivered by a qualified nurse and experienced first aid trainer, ensuring accurate, practical and up-to-date instruction.
