COURSE OVERVIEW
The Paediatric First Aid course is designed for anyone working with infants and children and provides the knowledge and practical competence required to deal with a wide range of paediatric first aid situations.
This qualification is suitable for childcare, education and community settings and can be delivered at your workplace or chosen venue across Edinburgh, The Lothians and Fife. The course includes Basic Life Support alongside injuries and illnesses associated with babies and children.
The qualification consists of two units, both of which must be successfully completed to achieve the FAA Award in Paediatric First Aid.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
During the Paediatric First Aid course, learners will cover a comprehensive range of topics, including:
Role of the Paediatric First Aider
Primary survey
Resuscitation (CPR, including the safe use of an AED)
Choking
Seizures and febrile convulsions
Diabetic emergencies
Asthma
Allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis
Meningitis
Wounds, bleeding and shock
Minor injuries
Fractures
Head, neck and back injuries
Foreign bodies
Electrical incidents
Extreme cold and heat
Recovery position
Training focuses on practical skills, clear decision-making and confident responses in paediatric emergency situations.

BOOK WITH CONFIDENCE
This regulated qualification is awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA) and is recognised by Ofqual and SQA. The course meets the requirements set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework for paediatric first aid training.
It is strongly recommended that learners attend annual refresher training to help maintain skills and confidence. To re-qualify after expiry, learners must complete the full 12-hour course again.
Training is delivered by a qualified nurse and experienced first aid trainer, ensuring accurate, practical and up-to-date instruction.
