COURSE OVERVIEW

This practical Basic Life Support (BLS) training provides learners with the essential knowledge and skills needed to respond confidently in emergency situations.


The course covers core life-saving techniques, including recognising an emergency, carrying out a primary survey, placing a casualty in the recovery position, performing CPR and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Depending on the course variation selected, training may also include the recognition and management of anaphylaxis.


Basic Life Support training is suitable for workplaces, community groups and organisations who want staff to feel prepared to respond effectively in an emergency.


Training is delivered on-site across Edinburgh, The Lothians and Fife.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

During Basic Life Support training, learners may cover a combination of the following topics:

  • What is First Aid

  • Responsibilities

  • Action in an emergency

  • Primary survey

  • Recovery position

  • Resuscitation and the safe use of an AED

  • Anaphylaxis

Training combines practical and theoretical activities to support confident, safe decision-making in emergency situations.

Minimum age: 14
(Learners cannot assume responsibility as a workplace first aider until age 16)

This regulated qualification is awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA) and is recognised by Ofqual and Qualifications Scotland Accreditation. The course provides learners with the practical competence required to recognise cardiac arrest and respond quickly, calmly and safely using an AED.


Training is delivered by a qualified nurse and experienced first aid trainer, ensuring instruction is accurate, practical and up to date.
